Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist I- Hybrid Room- Duke University Hospital (Commitment Bonus)
Summary
This position is located in the Cardiovascular surgical Hybrid Rooms at Duke University Hospital which currently consists of 3 hybrid rooms. This role is eligible for the $10,000 commitment bonus, must be new to Duke. The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (CVIS) will utilize professional cardiovascular theory, technology and processes to implement direct patient care to those requiring diagnostic or therapeutic procedures within the cardiovascular service. Demonstrates role-specific competence and assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. The CVIS will assist the physician in a scrub technologist role during diagnostic and interventional procedures. The Hybrid OR specializes in the care of patients undergoing angioplasty, stent placement, vascular procedures, mechanical support device placement (e.g. IABP), and EP devices.
Work schedule: Monday - Friday, Four 10 hour shifts per week, (6am-4:30pm), with call covering nights, weekends and holidays.
Work Performed
Assist the physician during endovascular or open procedures to treat cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Maintain high standards to achieve quality patient care. Perform interventional procedures which may include any of the following: PTA, stents, thoracic and abdominal aortic grafts, and percutaneous aortic valve placement. EP procedures may include any of the following: pacemaker generator and lead removal and re-implant.
Procedural requirements: Room preparation and breakdown including but not limited to: radiographic, computer setup, stocking rooms and room cleanup. Prepare sterile field appropriately for specified procedure type, prep access site according to OR standard practice. Acquire and accurately document pertinent patient data in the X-ray system. Operate radiographic equipment safely and correctly. Assess procedure room for equipment functionality and readiness. Obtain supplies for individual cases and appropriately prepare sterile field. Observe occupational and radiation safety regulations (wearing dosimeter badges, lead aprons, goggles). Participate in performance improvement activities.

Ability to use computer and learn new software programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, healthcare team, leaders, and others. Ability to withstand prolong standing and walking. Ability to remain focused and organized. Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering routine and special treatments to patients. Working knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions. Working knowledge and completion of appropriate JCAHO and other regulatory requirements. Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing required.
Minimum Qualification
Education
A graduate of an associate or baccalaureate academic program in health sciences (including, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology and radiologic technology).
A graduate of an associate or baccalaureate academic program in an unrelated field, along with graduation from a certificate program in cardiovascular technology or radiologic technology.
Experience
No experience required
1 year of Cardiac Cath, Electrophysiology, or Interventional Radiology experience preferred
Basic Life Support Certification required within 6 months of employment.
