The Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) in Washington DC is seeking a highly qualified Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist full-time. The position requires a successful completion of an adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology fellowship program as well as training in Transesophageal Echocardiography. The Candidate must have Certification, or he/she is in the process to acquire Certification in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography. A candidate with a Testamur status might be considered. The candidate should have a broad clinical experience and interest in practicing in a complex and high-acuity clinical environment.
The Washington DC VAMC provides best-practice surgical and procedural care to veterans ranging from common outpatient procedures to complex surgeries (general surgery, ENT, urologic, orthopedic, plastic and reconstructive, cardiothoracic, vascular, gynecologic, GI, EP etc.). Priority is given to candidates with additional training and/or experience in the following anesthesia subspecialties:
Perioperative anesthesia services.
Acute perioperative pain management.
Advanced cardiothoracic anesthesia training. Applicants must have a strong desire to teach residents, medical students, student nurse anesthetists, and other learners in the VA system.
Responsibilities include:
Cardiac volume about 130 open heart cases a year and about 60 thoracic cases a year distributed among the other two cardiac staff.
Opportunities to maintain TEE certification in collaboration with cardiology dpt
Family friendly schedule with 8 – 10 hours days on a rotating basis.
General call approximately 1 day per week and every 8th Call is from home after ORs finish for the day, which is approximately 7pm, with post-call day off.
Cardiac call is one week at a time-shared between 3 cardiac MDs. Call back rate is incredibly rare (< 5 per year).
Wide range of other cases including Ortho, ENT, Gen Surg, Vascular, Gyn, Urology, Plastics, Ophtho
Off-site cases include GI, EP, Bronch, IR. Potential to expand EP to include TAVRs, Mitra-Clips, Watchman, etc.
Fantastic group of Cardiac Team made up of Cardiac Surgeons and CRNAs who work very well together in a team environment
Opportunity to work with Anesthesia Residents & SRNAs on Cardiac, Regional, Off-Site and Advanced General rotations.
Ability for dedicated non-clinical time for academic activities, echo reading, research
