DUKE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL seeks to hire a ECMO Specialist who will embrace our mission of Advancing Health Together.
General Description of the Job Class
Perform, evaluate and coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of clinical practice. Work performed in accordance with physician orders. Defined duties are performed in neonatal, pediatric and adult patient populations in intermediate, intensive and emergency care areas.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Perform all the duties and responsibilities of the Respiratory Care Practitioner Advanced.
Insertion of radial arterial catheters.
Administer Nitric Oxide Gas therapy, Heliox gas therapy and Carbon Dioxide gas therapy.
Certified in adult and pediatric oscillating ventilation.
Certified in Extracorporeal Life Support ( ECLS) ( Specific to pediatric and neonatal team).
Facilitate emergency airway procedure. Implement clinical care protocols.
Develop patient care plans for physician intensive care rounds.
Provide orientation, education and training for Duke residents in assigned units.
Provide orientation, education and training for Level I and Level II respiratory therapists.
Provide patient and therapeutic assessments to assure optimal medical decisions. Review and revise policy, procedures and practice guidelines. Assist in the evaluation of products/equipment.
Maintain environment and supply inventory of assigned unit.
Function as alternate supervisor.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
Completion of a two year AMA approved respiratory care program (Associates Degree or the equivalent), with a Bachelor Degree preferred.
Experience
Two years' experience in clinical respiratory therapy, including one year experience in intensive care respiratory.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
North Carolina State Licensure
Registry ( RRT) by the National Association for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
Certification in Basic Life Support ( BLS)
Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS)
Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRPS) is assigned to neonatal ICU
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge necessary to make appropriate clinical decisions and interaction relative to the specific age of a patient.
Skills validation/certification of competencies for the duties and responsibilities required for a Level I and Level II respiratory therapist.
Must maintain annual skill maintenance and safety/compliance requirements.
Must maintain North Carolina annual license requirements for CEUs.
Attendance at Just -in-Time supervisory training.
Work involves contact with patients of all ages, family members, physicians, nursing, and all other members of the health care team.
Work is performed in all areas of Duke Hospital
Work may require lifting or pushing in excess of 30 pounds.
Required to carry emergency airway bag weighing approximately 20 pounds
Work requires walking, running, climbing and bending.
