Clinical Educator - Duke University Hospital - Evenings
General Description of the Job Class
Works with assigned clinical specialty line team of clinical educators to meet the education needs of the specialty. The educator will facilitate the adult learning process creating a climate which supports learning. Leads educational activities consistent with the standards of practice in the delivery of care and services in the assigned department. Assist the department leader with the educational operations, and compliance standards.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Works as part of a system, entity, or work unit to develop and deliver education to identified audiences.
Communicate effectively with staff and management regarding educational needs and offerings.
Coordinate educational activities with the assigned clinical area leadership. Establish and maintains a departmental educational documentation system consistent with regulatory and hospital standards. Builds collaborative relationships with assigned customer groups.
Works closely with new hires and current staff within assigned locations to facilitate orientation, competency validation and meet ongoing learning needs
Provides instruction to the assigned clinical area through research materials, lectures, curriculum planning, formal training methods and on-the-job instruction techniques.
Assesses the training needs and progress of staff members; researches, develops and evaluates in-service training programs. Develops evidence- based educational material.
Develop and conducts annual competency validation process. Develops/coordinates education plans related to initial and ongoing competency.
Assess, plan and implement programs for staff development to upgrade and maintain competency skills.
Demonstrate effective problem identification, problem solving and priority setting skills.
Demonstrate objectivity in addressing problems.
Supports staff development with educational activities (which include remediation, certification, mentoring, life support, Joint Commission requirements, new equipment/procedures, electronic health record updates)
Serve and actively participate on assigned committees, both unit specific and hospital education. Participate in the development of education and unit policies and procedures as appropriate. Assist in assuring compliance with the requirements of regulatory agencies.
Participate in budgetary planning and execution for meeting orientation, education and training needs.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
Bachelor's degree required in field related to the assigned clinical discipline. Master's Degree preferred.
Experience
5 years of experience in the assigned clinical area.
Experience with adult education and experience with designing and delivering training curriculum preferred.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
A state license and registry required based on assigned clinical area.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated potential ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above.
Ability to provide care to the populations served.
Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patients status and provide care as described in the departments policies and procedures manual.
Demonstrated clinical competence in defined areas and department standards.
