Summary: To provide basic respiratory care to newborns through geriatrics. Responsibilities include critical care, general patient care assignments, and related patient care plans where assignments and duties are predominately predictable. The RCPII will develop routine policies and procedures and monitor basic quality assurance studies conducted by RCP I's, including direct involvement in data collection.

Responsibilities: Able to Perform Duties of RCP I or II job description. Maintains accurate records for pulmonary lab, bronchoscopy lab and blood gas lab, including but not limited to policy and procedure manuals, QA and patient logs. Sets up and calibrates pulmonary function equipment prior to use in accordance to established guidelines. Performs various testing maneuvers to determine pulmonary mechanics and lung volume studies as ordered by the physician including spirometry, FVL, FVC, MVV, DLCO, Airway resistance and Methacholine challenge testing. Performs arterial punctures to obtain arterial blood samples for blood gas analysis, and understands the possible complications and contraindications associated with the procedure and documents appropriately. Documents all pertinent data on the patient's medical record following completion of any service. Performs diagnostic procedures with the pulmonary physicians such as bronchoscopy and thoracentesis assists. Routinely offers to help other team members. Hands off patient care plan thoroughly and effectively with peers, physician, and nursing staff, maintaining a team focus during and between shifts. Works as a team member by illuminating a positive attitude, cooperation, and communicate well with co-workers, patients and other members of the health care team while working and when on call.
