Job Description:
As an Oncology Nurse Navigator, you will function as a member of the multidisciplinary team and serve as an advocate and educator for cancer patients from diagnosis through end of active treatment.
You will ensure the patient remains compliant to the treatment plan. You will achieve this goal by building relationships with patients and physicians, coordinating the plan of care, education, resource provision and/or representation within the multidisciplinary care environment. You will also assume responsibility and accountability for the management of resources to achieve efficient, high-quality outcomes for cancer patients, including support with interdisciplinary and cross-facility coverage and collaboration. You will serve as a liaison between the patient and family with the multidisciplinary healthcare providers to ensure effective communication and collaboration. You will collaborate with local physician liaisons and leadership to conduct internal and external outreach and marketing when appropriate
You will serve as a patient advocate from diagnosis to end of active treatment
You will assess patients’ medical, social, and psychosocial needs/barriers to care and link them to appropriate resources.
You will provide appropriate teaching, outreach, and support to patients and families and ensure the patient is empowered to manage their own healthcare needs
You will conduct follow-up conversations with all patients and communicate any concerns, changes, or social needs to the appropriate physician or other care providers
Qualifications
Experience
Minimum Two (2) years oncology nursing experience required.
Experience in program development – preferred.
Experience as a nurse navigator and/or patient educator in oncology – required.
Experience in leadership and customer service – preferred.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing - preferred
Licenses and Certifications
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Nevada
Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) achieved or in progress – preferred

Northern Nevada Health System is a regional multi-facility system that has excelled at offering quality care to residents of the greater Truckee Meadows. We have many locations across the region and in our rural communities. Northern Nevada Medical Center, a 124-bed acute care hospital in Sparks, is our flagship provider. A second hospital, Sierra Medical Center, opened in 2022. It is the first full-service hospital built in the region in over a century.
