The Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System is currently recruiting for a Supervisory Occupational Therapist to supervise, lead, and guide our Occupational Therapy Section. The incumbent will be part of the Neurology and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Services interdisciplinary leadership team, which includes therapy supervisors, section chiefs, the service administrative officer, and the service chief. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English. Education and experience. The individual must meet at least one of the following requirements below: Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) years of experience as an occupational therapist; Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two (2) full years of graduate education in a related field; Master's Degree or higher in occupational therapy. NOTE: The baccalaureate degree must be from an approved program prior to the AOTA January 1, 2005 decision that the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) would only accredit master or doctoral degree programs in occupational therapy. Individuals must be a graduate of a degree program in occupational therapy approved by the ACOTE or predecessor organizations. This is inclusive of an internship (supervised fieldwork experience required by the educational institution). ACOTE is the only accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Graduates of foreign occupational therapy programs meet the basic education and experience requirements if they have a current, full, active and unrestricted license to practice occupational therapy in a state, territory or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia. Certification. Candidates must possess a current National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification as an Occupational Therapist. State Licensure. Candidates must possess a full, current, and unrestricted state license, to practice occupational therapy in a state, territory or Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia. Loss of Credential. An employee in this occupation who fails to maintain the required state or territorial licensure and the NBCOT certification, both current and in good standing, must be removed from the occupation, which may result in termination of employment. Grandfathering Provision. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Supervisory Occupational Therapist, GS-13 Education, Experience, and Licensure. Collaborate with other service chiefs, supervisors and staff within the Neurology-Rehabilitation service to develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures and inter-professional clinical programs with Physical Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Speech Therapy, Neurology, Rehabilitation, Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Pain Services. Represents Occupational Therapy in multidisciplinary committees with chiefs and supervisors of other sections and services, including Surgery Service, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Geriatrics Extended Care, Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Intensive Care, among others, to develop and implement policies and systems of care for the various patient populations in a high-quality and efficient manner. Supervise and assign workload to staff in the delivery and/or support of treatment and education of patients, families and caregivers. Incumbent acts as a subject matter expert regarding occupational therapy related activities, service and issues while interacting with other organizations. Knowledge of contemporary occupational therapy across multiple areas of practice, and the demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge to provide clinical guidance to multiple Staff Occupational Therapists and Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants within the Occupational Therapy Section.
