Nurses Defining Medicine - Med/Surg General Surgery

The nurses in the General Surgery Department of the George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) are Defining Medicine through their capacity to think, research, discover, evaluate, teach, learn, refine, and innovate. We are seeking newly licensed RNs for our medical/surgical general surgery unit who want to work in an environment which fosters positive patient outcomes through a collaborative practice model and evidence-based nursing practice. NURSE RESIDENCY PROGRAM

The GW Hospital nurse residency program combine lectures, e-learning, and hands on-skills lab experience with a clinical application in an acute care setting. Each intern is paired with an experienced RN preceptor in the clinical area. At the conclusion of the internship nurses begin the Nurse Residency Program as our goal is to achieve a successful and smooth transition for the new nurse. This one-year program is designed to assist the nurse in his/her continued development. The program includes monthly classes, debriefing sessions, and evidence based project, and Nurse Residency Coordinator oversight.

Requirements:

• GPA of 3.0 or greater from an accredited NLN or AACN RN program
• Unofficial transcript
• Two letters of recommendation (one must be from a clinical instructor or professor)
• Current CPR Certification by AHA or ARC
• Ability to commit full time for 24 months at GW Hospital

General Surgery Unit

5 North is a fast-paced, challenging and dynamic 39 bed acute care unit dedicated to inpatient Pre/Post general surgical care. This includes trauma, kidney transplant, general surgery and the Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. Our mission is to provide high quality, efficient, patient focused nursing care with compassion.

WE ACCEPT ALL NURSES from ADN and BSN programs.

• Has an ADN? We will pay for your BSN from George Washington University
• ADN NOVA and MMC graduates with a 3.0 GPA are automatically admitted to GWU School of Nursing Nurse Scholar program. The GWU curriculum is flexible to allow you to work as a full time nurse while in school
• Have experience as an LPN, ED Tech, Surg Tech or Military tech? You will be offered a higher rate.
• Monthly bonus based on hours worked with premium $$ for night shift
• Work as a Nurse Tech as soon as you are admitted into the program...you are eligible for the monthly bonus immediately.
