GENERAL SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Medical Director and the Manager of the Cath Lab and according to established policies and procedures, provides technical support during cardiac catheterizations and pacemaker insertions, cardioversions, tilt testes, EP studies, hemodynamic studies, and other evaluations and therapies. Ensures quality and safe delivery of care to patients in the following age groups. All ages; neonates; Infancy; Toddler; Preschool; School age; Adolescent; Adult; Geriatric.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Practice â�� Sets up and operates all equipment in the Cardiac Cath Lab, including the C-arm, the Medrad Injector, the film processor, the OSM3 Oximeter, the Datascope Patient Monitor, the PhysioControl Defibrillator, the IABP, and any other equipment as appropriate or requested. Performs patient care in the Cardiac Cath Lab/EP Lab under the direction of the Cath Lab physician and in conjunction with the Cath Lab RNâ��s, according to established standards of care. Must be able to recognize and identify EKGâ��s. Prepares sterile procedure trays as needed. Participates during procedures by scrubbing with physicians, recording, circulating, or in any other way requested. Provides in-service to staff regarding radiation safety and protection as needed. Is a member of the Radiation Safety Committee. Maintains all supplies in lab area. Meets with vendors regarding new equipment and supplies. Performs other duties as required by supervisor.
Leadership â�� Utilizes problem solving skills and communication with appropriate follow-up to staff and supervisor. Assures current quality practice through participation in Hospital committees, staff meetings, and continuing education.
Documentation â�� Records and interprets pertinent patient/procedure data according to Cardiac Cath Lab, legal, and Hospital guidelines. Inputs charges and patient and procedural information to database for statistical analysis. Documents equipment failures and repairs. Collects and reviews monthly dosimetry reports and advises as appropriate. Documents all other QC procedures as performed and advises supervisor as appropriate.
Communication â�� Keeps open lines of communication with all Cardiac Cath Lab team members regarding patient care needs, equipment, and procedural issues.
Education â�� Fulfills all professional and departmental education requirements. Assists staff in professional development. Acts as preceptor for new technical personnel.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of Associateâ��s Degree in cardiovascular technology.
BLS and ACLS certification required.
Operating room environment; almost constant standing, walking, and pushing/moving of patients and equipment. Regular exposure to radiation, blood products, and hazardous conditions
