This position will provide essential patient care services for the Duke Health and Fitness Center and satellite facility programming. Plan, coordinate and implements the development of exercise and lifestyle programs for all Duke Health and Fitness Center participants.
Respond to member's concerns or questions, which includes exercise prescription, goal setting and equipment orientation.
Ability to monitor pre/post/ exercise vital signs assessment (HR, BP, symptoms, blood glucose), monitoring exercise heart rate, blood pressure, rating of perceived exertion, and symptoms during exercise.
Counsel and instruct participants in basic behavior modification and risk factor reduction including nutrition, stress management, and adherence to medications and facilitate referral to appropriate specialty when indicated.
Identify individuals needing further evaluation and refer participants to appropriate individual for evaluation.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described above.
Teach group exercise classes for all populations.
Minimum Education and Training:
Bachelor's degree in exercise science
Special Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, Physical Requirements or Other Factors:
Knowledge of ACSM Exercise guidelines including exercise prescription for special populations
Experience leading group fitness classes preferred
Licenses, Certification or Registration Required:
Basic Cardiac Life Support certification required
ACSM Exercise Specialist certification preferred
Bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field required.
Level I: No previous experience required. Level II: Minimum 1-year applicable experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. Level III: Minimum 2 yrs. applicable experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Level I: BLS certification Level II: BLS; ACSM certification (must attain certification within 1 year of hire) Level III: BLS (ACLS preferred), ACSM Clinical Certification as Exercise Specialist required
