This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Learn more The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) supports clinical nursing practice in the Long Term Care/Short Term Rehab unit and functions as a generalist at the point of care and manages and coordinates care of individuals and clinical groups. The LPN possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) functions as part of the inter-disciplinary health care team. This position provides astute nursing assessment and critical thinking skills in order to deliver outstanding clinical care to veterans. The staff nurse applies the nursing process to systems or processes at the patient/unit/team/work group level to improve care. Data is obtained and used to plan care and formulate a treatment plan Collaboration with other disciplines is a critical function. Individualized care is carried out using sound clinical judgment. The following duties are part of the LPN role: Competent to care for veterans 20 to 70+ years of age who are experiencing medical and psychological consequences of illness. Applies knowledge of human behavior, motivations, and reactions to situations in the provision of nursing care for an aging population. Provides nursing care by observing, identifying, and responding to the physical, emotional, and social needs of specific patients. Processes patients for admissions, transfer, or discharge following established written nursing program guidelines. Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to provide nursing care to patients with a variety of physical problems in a timely manner as assigned by the Registered Nurse following nursing program guidelines. Demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and ability to recognize emergency situations and initiates appropriate measures. Properly performs basic cardiac life support (BCLS). Utilizes techniques that ensure safe, accurate administration of medications and treatments following nursing program guidelines.
