Your Role: Assists all areas with the coordination of the daily patient surgical schedule with occasional guidance from the charge nurse, physician, or staff nurse. Ensures instrumentation is sterile and ready to use. Cleans, disinfects and sterilize all flexible bronchoscopes, video scopes and related Endoscopy instruments for all areas.
- Maintains work environment in a safe, clean, orderly manner.
- Performs, documents and monitors all quality control tools.
- Receives and inventories departmental supplies, instrumentation and equipment.
- Prepares instrumentation and equipment according to recommended procedures and techniques in preparation for high-level disinfection and sterilization to support all perioperative areas and clinics.
- Operates all departmental equipment safely and effectively.
- Scans instrumentation and assembles, according to prescribed procedures and techniques.
- Provides technical support and assists in selecting instruments and equipment for Endoscopy Procedures for all Perioperative areas.

Position Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience) and 2 years relevant experience
Preferred:
- Prior experience in Sterile Processing/Flexible Endoscopy preferred
- Experience in sterilization of instruments for Minimally Invasive Surgeries
Position Shift:
- 2nd shift 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM Monday - Friday and available for call on weekends
TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES :
SURGICAL EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE (NOVICE): Knowledge of the specific equipment and its performance criteria, capabilities and limitations. Able to use the equipment to accomplish basic tasks associated with the specific devices. May conduct remedial maintenance and preventive maintenance.
STERILIZATION PREPARATION (NOVICE): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate sterilization preparation in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE - (NOVICE): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to maintain equipment, products, or systems in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Assures that parts inventory is sufficient.
DEPARTMENTAL POLICIES & PROCEDURES (NOVICE): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate knowledge of departmental policies and procedures in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Is attentive to existing departmental policies and procedures and may recommend improvements to existing departmental policies and procedures within the work area.

Our Sterile processing department is comprised of two locations that work together to ensure high quality instruments needs are met for the patient and surgeon. With the use of our instrument tracking system we excel in the preparation of reusable instrumentation and equipment for clinical and surgical procedures across the entire campus. Services include but not limited to Robotic, Endoscopic, Laparoscopic, Cardiac, Trauma, Neuro, Spine, Orthopedic, Ear Nose and Throat, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Vascular, Donor, and transplant services.
- We average 150 surgical procedures a day
- Central Sterile processing on main campus, includes 29 team members and provides reprocessing service for 37 clinics and units as well as 54 operating rooms.
- Endosurgery department on main campus includes 10 team members specialized in reprocessing Endoscopic and laparoscopic equipment.
- 100 Oaks Central Sterile processing includes 2 team members focused on reprocessing clinic instrumentation and equipment.
- Vanderbilt Case Cart Operation Center includes 24 team members that provides reprocessing service for 21 offsite clinics and 54 operating rooms.
